MicroAPRS and APRSDroid

Hello,
maybe of interest:
I did make some tests using KISS version of MicroAPRS in conjunction with APRSDroid running on my Android Smartphone.
For connection between modem and phone one of these cheap Bluetooth moduls from China has been used.
Supply voltage only was 3.7 volts, which maybe is a little bit too low for Atmels running under 16Mhz, but at least in my case this did not cause problems.

For first tests it is advisable, not yet running APRSDroid on Smartphone, but using one of those Android terminal programs. So you can see, whether incoming APRS raw data are looking correct ( where of course first part of KISS protocols will not be decoded under ASCII ).

Incoming APRS data can be seens in text formats or as map markers

Re: MicroAPRS and APRSDroid

This is good stuff... I did tried the KISS firmware with BT module before HC-05 master mode but could not get it running ...
The BT was paired to the APRSDroid but nothing came out previously...

Re: MicroAPRS and APRSDroid

Hello Stanley,
those BT modules normally are shipped with running in slave mode and using default serial data rate 9600bps. So in most cases there is no need for changing any of its settings. Nevertheless it makes sense, before running APRSDROID, firstly monitoring raw data received on Smartphone side. My best choice for this is a program named: S2 Terminal for Bluetooth. Its available for free via Play Store.

Re: MicroAPRS and APRSDroid

Hi Mark.

I have a question. When I am in the KISS-mode, when receiving a package extra unknown symbols are added at the end of the package which are not present in the original package (see pics). Because of these extra symbols everything gets mixted up at the aprs.fi .

And in the MicroAPRS mode these symbols do not appear.

Thanks a lot

Re: MicroAPRS and APRSDroid

Hmm.. That's rather odd! I will investigate, but right now I don't know why that is happening. Luckily I have an android phone myself, and I think I have some BT serial modules lying around somewhere smile I will take a look at this soon and see what is going on!

Re: MicroAPRS and APRSDroid

Hi,

today I have used micorAPRS in KISS mode on Arduino Nano V3.0 with APRSdroid via USB serial connection (Georg Lukas has recently included this in APRSdroid, still in beta).
I have also seen these symbols, just to report this. So, apparently this issue is not tied up to blutooth...?
